Meet Someone Online
Here SydneyFriends have gathered some great sources to meet people online.
Just remember though, even though the source is well known, you are still dealing
with people, so choose your friends/partner wisely (^-^). If you know of some other sites I could add here please let me know
in either the forum or contact me here.
Enjoy
Here is our list of favourites sorted by type of site:
Some of you may pride yourself for meeting great people only in person. Well that's all
good however, if you consider the numbers online compared to a usual venue where you may meet
someone, the odds of meeting someone compatably are clearly in favour of online.
If you haven't met someone in person that you have met online, then you are behind the times ;)
Here are some 100% free online sites to make friends/dating partners:
Here's a list of the top 100 dating sites:
These are free to register but you need to pay at some point to reply to messages: (have a little bit better selection ;) )
Finding a pen friend is a fun way to meet people, I started making pen friends via snail mail
when I was in high school, however using emails to make "pen friends" is much more convenient.
Here's a definition from wikipedia.com: "A penpal relationship is often used to practice reading and writing in a foreign language, to improve literacy, to learn more about other countries and life-styles, and to reduce loneliness. As with any friendships in life, some people remain
penpals for only a short time, while others continue to exchange letters and
presents life-long. Some penpals eventually arrange to meet face to face.
Some pen pals even get married".
Here are some of the better penpal sites:
Chatting online is popular amongst many. Most people find using messengers/skype, however when your listed contacts
aren't online you may like to use a chat site to talk with a complete stranger, some chat sites also invite
guests who specialise in certain areas, which could make your chat experience more valuable.
Messengers - Your chatting partner may prefer to chat using one of these rather than a website:
- Google Talk - Google's own messenger.
- MSN Messenger - Very popular for one-one chat.
- Yahoo Messenger - Chatrooms are built into the messenger.
- Skype - Famous for voice chat, however all the above messengers have that too.

Forums are great for exchanging information, some forums specialise in helping people get to
know one another.
You may think this isn't very relevent, however I have a few good friends doing this,
it usually happens out of interest in the game more than searching for a friend, and
if you play games that you are interested in, then you know you have at least one thing in common (^-^).
Most games have inbuild chat, so it's quite easy to meet people you are having a good challenge with.
- games.yahoo.com - There is plenty to do and see at yahoo games. All the games I have used there have chat. Have fun!
- AOL Games - Another large games site.
- A3: Awakening - Very large online game about Aliens, has many features, running since 1997.

hang out. Has many worlds, such as Fantasy World and Castles World.

It's a site made in the UK, all welcome however mainly for those under
20.
- Moove
- This is a very fun online world (installed on your computer), you can
decorate your home, invite others to come over, or explore the world by
visiting your neighbors. Free trial available.
- Second Life
- You have probably heard of this site, as there have been quite a few
TV shows about it. This site appears to have it's own economy, and
there are many levels to society. It's also a very customisable site.
Many real-life relationships have started from this site.
- There - Play, explore, shop, take part in events, and talk in this great online game.
- Whyville - Very customisable site, play games to earn money.
- World War II Online - This is a very interesting site, not only for those interested in history.
Check out this page for a list of other sites for social networking.
Remember that with the right attitude anything is possible, you can make a friend anywhere, because
if you are there, nothing is stopping a like-minded person from doing the same. Beware of the shams, there
are people with the wrong intentions for using some sites, so be careful, have fun, and enjoy meeting people online!
